Deep tissue massage uses slow techniques with more pressure than standard swedish massage. It is used to pin point knots and reduce tension in tight stubborn areas.
By positioning a joint in it's open relaxed position I am able to mobilize the articulating surfaces of the joint. This improves range of motion and function of the joint and helps relax surrounding muscles.
I will instruct you to relax and bring you into an isolated stretch for the specific muscle being worked. This will allow muscle fibers to lengthen and reduce tense knots.
Fascia is a thin layer of dense connective tissue that wraps our muscles and bones to hold things in place. By using a towel or sheet i will perform spreading, rolling or pulling motions on the skin and muscles to separate fascial restrictions. This will improve muscle function and range of motion in the area of the corrected restriction. It will also help with chronic pain.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are knots in muscle that cause pain in predictable patterns based on the associated nerve root of the affected muscle. By compressing trigger points and using muscle stripping(deep, slow strokes along direction of muscle fiber) I can reduce the trigger point to alleviate pain. Compression of trigger points will be painful but should reduce after the technique is completed.
